Callissa sat in the hallway near the counseler's office, curled in a ball up against the light blue walls. Usually, the light blue of the walls reminded her of the sky and she felt like a bird, soaring freely beyond every limit. Today, however, she couldn't have felt more trapped. As she dug her head into her knees, she could feel tears forming in the corners of her almond shaped eyes. She'd chosen to sit outside of the counselor's office due to the fact that the screaming of students afraid of themselves drowned out Callissa's small sobs.
"Worthless," she could still hear in the back of her mind. "You're not my daughter. You're a worthless monster." These words were able to haunt her every year, for she had been able to run away, but she could never forget her life before she'd found the school.
